Latinx Literature, Resistance Through Education

In a mixed genre presentation of narrative verse, short stories and poetry, authors, Leticia Del Toro and Aida Salazar will offer up selections meant to empower and engage students in a K-12 curriculum. Leticia will share excerpts from short stories and poetry she has used in 9th and 10th grade English literature and Spanish (world language) courses. Aida will discuss literary selections that can be paired with chapters from Zinn’s A Young People’s History of the United States. A special reading of each presenter’s own writings will be included, as well. Leticia Del Toro is the author of Café Colima (Kore Press) and has taught language arts in California high schools. Aida Salazar’s middle grade novel in verse, The Moon Within, is forthcoming in February of 2019 (Scholastic Books).
